Benefits of Barre

Updated: Aug 18

I am really excited to share my recent qualification as a barre instructor with you. My online team have already noticed the benefits of this amazing form of exercise.

In recent years, the fitness industry has increasingly embraced functional fitness training. Functional fitness exercises prepare your muscles by mimicking common movements you might do in your everyday life. Let's translate this into barre and everyday activities. Examples might be raising your heels off the floor in barre which helps you reach the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard, demi plie in barre makes your legs stronger so you can walk up and down the stairs with ease or balancing in barre helps you move without falling. Meanwhile, ballet barre provides a disciplined foundation, emphasizing strength, flexibility, and grace. Together, it offers a well-rounded approach to physical well-being.

The barre (or a chair can be used) offers support for balance and stability. By maintaining a light grip on the barre, you can focus on specific muscle groups. Additionally, the barre helps you complete a sequence with the correct body alignment and encourages great posture.

In ballet training, this ingrained body awareness is automatic, and the associated benefits are as follows:

  • Improved posture

  • More efficient breathing

  • Shaper alignment

  • Improved co-ordination, agility and reflexes.

  • Greater muscular strength and endurance

  • Increased mobility and flexibility

  • Core strength and functional fitness

  • Joint stabilisation

So, now you've read the benefits, why not come and join my online fitness platform or my face to face classes which start on 12th September 2024 at Ansty Village Hall, Deaks Lane, Ansty, Haywards Heath, RH17 5AS. Your first session is free
